Punjab Local Government Minister Balkar Singh on Saturday took round of the city to inspect the waterlogged roads besides directing to ensure efficient drainage system thus curtailing hardships of people especially during heavy downpour.

Local Government Minister Balkar Singh accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Kaplish and other officials visited some areas and directed to further make the underground drainage system seamless. Municipal Commissioner apprised the Minister that all the pumps were working at 120 feet road and Pholriwal area to drain out the waterlogged due to heavy rain. Besides senior officers of Municipal Corporation, other officials were remained in the field to get the clogged roads cleared to ensure free flow of rain water.
Pointing out further, the Minister directed that all the sewerage system should be cleaned in normal days, which would ease hardships of people in rainy days with smooth flow of water. He emphasised that the low-lying areas should be focused on priority so these could not become inundated due to stagnation of water after rain.
Pertinently, the officials of Municipal Corporation and sanitary staff were busy in clearing the clogged system at different location resulting in early clearing the roads to facilitate people. Additional Commissioner Shikha Bhagat led the team in West Zone, Joint Commissioner Gurminder Singh Randhawa, Joint Commissioner Puneet Sharma supervised the entire operations at different locations. Similarly, Executive Engineer Baljeet Singh got the pump repaired at 120 feet road within half an hour while the SDO Dhiraj Sahota also personally made strenuous efforts to clear the area in his jurisdiction. Municipal Commissioner said besides officials, the sewermen and their president Rajan Kalyan were in field amid the rain making the sewer system functional.
